Are you getting ready for your first Botox appointment? Botox can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, giving you a fresh new look. But there are a few things you should know about Botox.

Here are some questions to ask before your next appointment.
## 1. What training and qualifications does your practitioner have?
Before booking an appointment for at-home Botox, take some time to get to know your nurse. Ask about their training and qualifications.  A skilled nurse has extensive training to help you achieve your desired results. They know exactly where and how to inject Botox to reduce the risk of side effects and give you youthful-looking skin.
## 2. How does Botox work?
It’s a good idea to find out exactly how Botox works. Ask your nurse for more details before the treatment. Botox injections target certain muscles in your face, for example at the corners of your eyes or between your eyebrows.

Botox relaxes targeted muscles by blocking signals from the brain that tell the muscles to tense. When these muscles are relaxed, your wrinkles are smoothed away.
## 3. How long will it last?
Botox is temporary. Over time, the botulinum toxin gets broken down into amino acids and targeted muscles start moving again. On average, Botox lasts between three to six months. If this is your first appointment, the Botox might wear off sooner, as your body works hard to break down this unfamiliar protein. 

What winkles you target will also affect how long Botox lasts. Larger muscles require a higher dose of Botox to reduce wrinkles. The larger muscles also break down Botox more quickly. For example, Botox in the muscles around the mouth may last two or three months. 
## 4. What’s it like to get Botox?
Before your appointment, it’s a good idea to find out exactly what to expect during treatment. The injection only takes a few minutes, and the entire appointment should take less than 30 minutes.

The injection is nearly painless since the needles used for the injection are tiny. You’ll feel a slight pinch or prick during the injection, but it’s not painful. Side effects are uncommon, but you may experience some redness or swelling in the first few minutes.
## 5. Should I get Botox or dermal fillers?
Before you get a Botox treatment, make sure this is the right treatment for you.

Before your appointment, ask about what you should or shouldn’t do before and after Botox. Before treatment, we recommend reducing alcohol intake, and avoiding taking anti-inflammatory medications. After treatment, we recommend that you take time to relax and avoid doing a strenuous workout.
