Botox is a cosmetic treatment that smooths wrinkles and gives you a fresh new look. This injectable can relax the muscles in your face to reduce movement and do away with wrinkles. What you do immediately after a Botox appointment can help you get the best results.

Here’s your guide to Botox aftercare that will help you make the most of each treatment. 
## Day One
On the day you get Botox, there are a few things you can do to minimize your risk of swelling or bruising, and make sure that that Botox doesn’t migrate to other muscles in the face.

Lightly exercise your face by raising and lowering your eyebrows, smiling, and squinting. Only do this for a couple of minutes. Gently exercising your face can help the Botox settle into your facial muscles more quickly
Maintain a normal heart rate. It’s a good idea to avoid doing cardio the day you get Botox. Elevating your heart rate can make it harder to Botox to settle into the target muscles and may even cause the Botox to spread to nearby muscles.
Avoid touching your face for the day. Don’t put pressure on your face, rub the area, or massage your face. Touching your face on the day you get Botox can spread the Botox to other muscles, and it can also increase your risk of swelling or bruising.
Don’t lie down. We recommend sitting upright for the first few hours after getting Botox. Bending or lying down sometimes leads to bruising.
## Day Two
Aftercare doesn’t end after day one. There are a few more aftercare tips to consider on day two.

We recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours after your Botox injection. This means that on day two you may want to skip your workout. Exercise increases heart rate and blood flow. Exercise is great for your health, but it can reduce the effectiveness of Botox and may increase the risk of swelling at the injection site. 
If you’re worried about side effects, avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours after your injection. Alcohol can increase the risk of bruising.
Stay away from any other facial treatments for at least two days. We recommend going makeup-free if possible, and taking a break from exfoliating scrubs or facials for a couple of days.
Finally, stay out of the sun for a few days after your Botox treatment. Direct sunlight and heat can lead to some swelling or bruising of the face, so wear a hat if you’re heading outside. Other head sources to avoid in the first few days include hot tubs, long hot showers, saunas, and the tanning bed.
## Return to Your Normal Activities
Unlike other cosmetic treatments, Botox doesn’t require any recovery time or downtime. You won’t need to take time off work or rearrange your schedule to get Botox. But aftercare is still important. These aftercare tips for the first few days will help you make the most of your Botox treatment and help you get the best results.
