One of the most common questions people ask about Botox is “Can I exercise after Botox?” Exercise is part of a healthy routine. Exercise can improve overall health and even keep your face looking young and fresh. You can exercise after Botox, but not right away.
## Skip the Gym for 24 Hours
After a Botox treatment, we recommend avoiding the gym for 24 hours. Any strenuous exercise immediately after your injections can interfere with your treatment. When blood flow increases and your metabolism kicks up a notch, Botox may not be as effective as it should be.

## Exercise Can Make It Harder for Botox to Settle
In the first day or two after a Botox injection, Botox is settling into the targeted muscles and going to work relaxing these muscles. Elevating your heart rate with an intense workout can prevent Botox from settling into your muscles. The Botox will eventually settle into your muscles, but exercise can make this process take longer, and it can affect your treatment results.

## Exercise Can Spread Botox to Other Muscles
Getting in a workout may spread Botox to nearby muscles. Before Botox completely settles into the target muscles, it can migrate to other muscles. Exercise, laying on your face, or rubbing your face can all move Botox away from the targeted area. 

When this happens, Botox is less effective in the targeted area. And depending on your area of treatment, you could even increase your risk of side effects. For example, if you’re getting Botox for crow’s feet and the Botox migrates, it may cause a drooping eyelid or uneven eyebrows.

## Working up a Sweat Can Make You Rub Your Face
It’s not a good idea to work up a sweat right after Botox. You’ll be tempted to wipe that sweat off your brow or give yourself a mini-massage after your workout. Putting pressure on your face can move Botox away from the target muscles, so avoid wiping away sweat or rubbing your face in the first 24 hours after treatment. 
## Relax to Prevent Bruising
Immediately after your Botox injection, you may notice some mild side effects. This can include some swelling, redness, or soreness at the injection site. You could also experience some slight bruising that will clear up within a couple of days.

If you do a workout right after your Botox treatment, you can increase your risk of swelling or bruising in the area. Exercise can push more blood to the face and increase your risk of side effects in the area.
## Do Some Facial Exercises
We don’t recommend any strenuous exercise right after Botox. But we do recommend making faces! Doing a few light facial exercises can actually help Botox settle into muscles faster. You can smile, frown, squint, and raise your eyebrows to help work Botox into the targeted muscles.

You can do some facial exercises a couple of hours after your treatment, but don’t overdo it. Spend two to five minutes working your face then relax for the rest of the day.
